Partying with a star in DC
As part of their Francophile celebration, the Listner Auditorium on the George Washington University campus had Angelique Kidjo performing an amazing show last night. She is a world music diva with an energy and a spirit that sweeps you up and leaves you exhausted and begging for more! She does an incredible fusion of Afro-Pop, Caribbean, Brazilian and anything else she finds enjoyable and meaningful. Some of your kids may know her music. She has a song on The Lion King II: Simba's Pride called We Are One.
For the end of the set we were invited to join her on stage and dance. It was fantastic! We were there for three songs. There were people of all ages, including a kid about 10 that was dancing with such carefree spirit he was a blast to watch. Here percusionist came out with a drum and got the crowd all riled up again. There were women dancing traditional African steps, people doing latin steps and others just feeling the music and her power.
I left completely exhilirated. It was the best show I have ever been too! If she goes anywhere near you get tickets and wear your dancing shoes!
I got this pic while dancing on stage with her. She saw me with my camera phone and posed for me. I'm sorry about the picture quality! Really sorry. Future pics should be of better quality. I've got a new camera phone! Yeah!
Eva Ayllon, Peruvian diva will also be performing at Lisner on April 8, 2006. Can't wait!
